I found this one a bit interesting. Not so dumb crooks set up a simple and effective robbery position where the victim comes right to them and no avenue of escape. Other than through them.

Almost the technical definition of an ambush. The main difference though is that a true ambush involves the attacking force being in a hidden position. These fellas were in plain sight. Maybe the victim had no other route to take, but ideally he should have seen them hanging about there and anticipated the danger.

There's also the concept of 'cut-off groups' in a military type ambush that prevent the target from escaping back through the way they came in... which these guys almost achieved with their staggered position.

Thankfully they were the worst muggers ever.

Those bridges, like train stations and buses, strike me as almost perfect places to beat the shit out of someone not suspecting/expecting it.

I wonder if they waited near the middle so that if any police turned up they could choose to go the other way? Otherwise why not wait near the other side, and like Shar implies, take someone from behind.

I was somewhat hoping one of the would be muggers would get pushed over the edge... oh well maybe next time.

Another reason I hate these footbridges.. I think it's from my dad lifting me over the edge of one over a waterfall as a kid to 'get a better look'.
